30 Years of The Nutcracker - Roswell Dance Theatre
Roswell Dance Theatre presents their 30th annual production of THE NUTCRACKER beginning in November at City Springs Performing Arts Studio
Over 250 local children, teens and young adults will perform in Tolbert Yilmaz Dance Studio’s 30th performance of this classic Christmas tradition.
Roswell Dance Theatre is thrilled to present its 30th anniversary production of The Nutcracker, directed by Nancy Tolbert Yilmaz and Mary Lynn Taylor at the spectacular new Performing Arts Center at City Springs. This stunning venue will add to the magic of the performance as patrons experience Byers Theatre’s excellent sight lines, superb acoustics, full orchestra pit, fly loft and robust lighting, with seating for 1,070 on three levels, including box seats.
With 350 performers, this Nutcracker is the largest and oldest in Roswell and North Fulton County; and families have returned year after year to enjoy this beloved holiday tradition. Gorgeous costumes, spectacular scenery, truly memorable music and exquisite dancing will delight local residents and their guests, who travel from around the Southeast region to enjoy this performance. We are especially excited this year because we’ve got a few surprises in store for everyone!
As Clara’s dreams come to life, Herr Drosselmeier, uses magic to transform the Nutcracker doll into a handsome Cavalier Prince, who can escort Clara through a strange new world, now taking shape about them. She and her Prince find themselves entering the Land of Snow.
Which are you favorite characters? The Candy Canes? The Russian Dolls? Or the Spanish, the Chinese Tea, Cupcakes, Gingerbread or Arabian?
The cast includes world-class professionals who have danced nationally and internationally, as well as aspiring young professionals from our own Roswell Dance Theatre, the performing company of the Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance. Roswell Dance Theatre begins rehearsal in August for the November opening, but planning and production work occur year round.
As we celebrate the 30th year, the Nutcracker first family, including Clara, Fritz, Clara’s little sister and Mr. and Mrs. Von Stahlbaum, will have a new wardrobe. The Sugar Plum Fairy will also have a beautiful new costume that took over four months to construct and which is embellished with thousands of Swarovski crystals! This will only add to the sparkle the dancers already gracefully bring to the stage.
The 12-performance run opens its production on Friday, November 23 and continues through the following Sunday, December 2. Several special performance opportunities feature two character ‘meet & greets’ with autographs and photos, Girl Scout troop events and two special daytime shows for schools, seniors and local community groups. To commemorate the shows, there is an extensive Nutcracker-themed gift boutique to find the perfect souvenir to take home and enjoy.
At the conclusion of the festivities, the dancers wave goodbye to Clara– a happy farewell for the fantasies that must fade away with her dream. They will await Clara’s return next Christmas – and she will always have her Nutcracker!
