Summer STAYcation - Day By Day for 7 Days
ACT LIKE A TOURIST FOR ONE WEEK
We often hear friends or neighbors say, “I’ve lived here all my life, but I’ve never been to ... (fill-in-the-blank).” After working with the RCVB to produce their annual ‘Guide to Good Times,’ we found ourselves saying the same thing - so much to do and see in Roswell that we take for granted! So, we set out to write an itinerary for the dream summer staycation.
Day 1 - Saturday
Breakfast: Gracious Plenty Bakery and Breakfast
Morning Excursion: Roswell Farmers Market
Lunch: Light sandwich at The Fickle Pickle or Plum Street Cafe 3PM - Check in to the Doubletree Hotel This hotel is central to everything in Roswell and offers the right amount of vacation level luxury. Or for a little less stay at the Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express or Best Western Plus. After settling in and unpacking, go for a swim, then get ready to go out - take Uber to an early diner
Dinner: French: Bistro VG or Pastis (If July 14 then enjoy French food on Bastille Day!)
Evening Excursion: Riverside Sounds: Joe Alterman Quartet, 7 - 9PM, Free series produced by the City of Roswell’s Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department. If you take your staycation the next week then on July 14 you can take in live music by Matt Carroll at 9:30pm at Roux on Canton, instead. Hail an Uber back to the hotel and get a good night’s sleep to be ready for the week!
Day 2 - Sunday
Breakfast: Crazy Love Coffee House
Morning: Get a racing start to the week and bring the family to Andretti Indoor Karting, which opens at 10AM.
Lunch: Brunch at Peach and the Porkchop, Crabapple Tavern or Osteria Mattone
Afternoon Excursion: Slip and Slide Extravaganza from 1 - 4PM at Garrard Landing Park - a free event that will offer three different age-appropriate slides. Free parking is available onsite. Donations are welcome and will benefit Roswell’s Adaptive Camps for Kids with Disabilities. Or, check out the Parks & Rec calendar at roswellga.gov.
Dinner: Seafood - The Big Ketch Evening
Excursion: Chattahoochee Nature Center’s Sunday Concert Series. If you take your staycation the following week then on July 15 you can take in live music by Matt Carroll at 9:30pm at Roux on Canton, instead.
Day 3 - Monday
Breakfast: Thumbs Up Diner
Morning Excursion: Garden Tour Mondays at Barrington Hall - 9:30AM Enjoy a free 30-minute tour of the gardens and historic plants on the grounds of Barrington Hall. Discover how the gardens have been restored, receive gardening tips, and learn about heirloom and native plants. No reservations necessary.
Lunch: Sushi: Monkey 68, Pearl Raw Bar or Tokyo Bay Buffet
Afternoon Excursion: Stop by the Roswell Visitors Center and pick up the Brewery Tour card (you’ll need that on Friday) and the Walking Tour brochure for the Historic District - take your time and spend the whole afternoon immersed in history
Dinner: Peach and the Porkchop, dessert and relax back at the hotel
Day 4 - Tuesday
Breakfast: Scooter’s Coffee - Order their Summer Sippin’ entry!
Morning Excursion: Butterfly Encounter Chattahoochee Nature Center
Lunch: Chipper’s Club
Afternoon Excursion: Art Around Roswell Sculpture Tour
Dinner: Mill Kitchen & Bar just off of Roswell’s Town Square.
Evening Excursion: Movie at Aurora Cineplex - Jurassic World at 7:50PM
Day 5 - Wednesday
Breakfast: Eggs Up Grill
Morning Excursion: A Southern Trilogy - tour three amazing historic house museums
Lunch: Houck’s Grille, Marlow’s Tavern or Boneyard’s Kitchen
Afternoon Excursion: Stroll the art galleries and antique shops in the Historic District - but be sure to grab a
quick pick-me-up mid-afternoon at Thousand Hills Coffee.
Dinner: Osteria Mattone - delicious Roman fare while listening to Crooked Wits, a local trio acoustic band which plays on Wednesday evenings in the summertime.
Evening Excursion: Walk over to Butter and Cream (until 10PM) for something sweet!
Day 6 - Thursday
Breakfast: The Flying Biscuit
Morning Excursion: Fringe Mini Golf
Lunch: BBQ: Meating Street, GC BBQ, Moe’s Original or Spiced Right Ribhouse.
Afternoon Excursion: Shopping! Downtown Roswell: Spirited, Honey Butter, Serendipity, La Bella Vie, Steel and Cotton, Roswell Provisions, Deep Roots Wine Market.
Dinner: Mexican: Ceviche or El Porton
Evening: Georgia Ensemble Theatre’s Ring of Fire, which tells the story of Johnny Cash through his music at the Ben Brady Pavilion on the grounds of the Chattahoochee Nature Center.
Day 7 - Friday
Breakfast: Another Broken Egg
Morning Excursion: Untamed: More or Less at the Roswell Fine Arts Alliance in the East Roswell Park facilities.(thru 9/18)
Lunch: Lucky’s Burgers or Grub Gastro Pub
Early Afternoon: 1:30pm All Hands Productions presents a puppet show for the kids: The Reluctant Dragon at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center. www.roswellcac.com
Brewery Tour - Get your card stamped at each brewery so you can get your free collectors glass at the Welcome Center: start across the street with Variant Brewing Co, then walk a couple of blocks to Gate City Brewing Co., and then take the Roswell Trolley (which starts running at 5:30PM) to From the Earth Brewing Co.
Dinner: A late, leisurely dinner at Foundation Social Eatery.
